EDITING
MSN Real Estate
I edit all freelance content (except my own stories) for MSN Real Estate, as well as content provided by partners such as the Wall Street Journal, Sunset, Coastal Living, SmartMoney, MarketWatch and many others. I modify partner content as needed to correct errors and conform to MSN style.
Viridian
I most recently edited Viridian’s Polices and Procedures document (45 pages!) and Terms and Conditions for several states. I also edited the first issue of the recently launched Green Energy Observer (GEO). I have previously edited monthly newsletters for Viridian Associates, as well as the new Associate starter kit and some sections of the Viridian website. (I also wrote many sections of the website.) Read what Viridian’s VP for marketing and brand communications says about my work.
Community Science
I edit reports and other documents for Community Science, a research and development organization that “works with governments, foundations and nonprofit organizations on solutions to social problems through community and other systems changes.”
Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation
I edited two global health reports for IHME:
- Financing Global Health 2010: Development Assistance and Country Spending in Economic Uncertainty
- Building Momentum: Global Progress Toward Reducing Maternal and Child Mortality
I also edited a number of articles for Population Health Metrics and completed several other smaller editing projects for IHME (for writing projects, see below). Read what IHME’s communications director has to say about my writing and editing work.
WRITING
MSN Real Estate
In September 2011, I began writing a monthly column for MSN Real Estate called “Real Estate on the Cheap,” with the idea that it doesn’t matter whether you’re buying, selling, renovating or renting – you’d rather do it for less. Each month, I write about a budget-friendly topic or tactic, then share insight from a real-estate agent about how to bargain shop in a particular market. Here are a few of those:
- The cheapest house in town
- Goodbye, paper. Hello, ‘e-closings’
- What the other half leases
- 9 ritzy rentals
- DIY projects for the end of summer
- 6 essential tips for long-distance house or rental hunting
- Homes with something to hide
- 13 big threats to your home’s value
- Homeowners: 13 summer dangers and how to stay safe
- A who’s who guide to buying your first home
- The best way to break up with your roommate
- Mega home markdowns
- 10 great winter home projects
- Million-dollar mobile homes (winner of two awards)
- 19 nightmare roommates
- When your landlord lives upstairs
- 17 (mostly) surprising ways you’re violating your lease
- When to call your landlord
- Why it’s illegal to drive too slowly (This one was picked up by MSN Money and got a lot of comments)
- Speed-trap warning could get you a ticket
